In Due Time

Recently I had breakfast with a friend I have known for about twenty four years. He was a former customer of mine and I was a former customer of his. I told him of how I missed having him as my Insurance Agent, and he accused me of changing careers so I wouldn’t have to work on his cars anymore. We caught up on family, friends, on his retirement, and my new job.

As the food arrived, he offered the blessing. He prayed for the food, the time we had to catch up, and that the Lord would help us to be strong Christian men. As we started to eat, I recalled another meal we had shared a long time ago. I was at the lowest point in my life that I can remember, emotionally and spiritually. He had come by my work and asked me if he could take me to lunch.

As we walked to lunch, he asked me how I was doing, but he already knew I wasn’t doing well. He listened to me while we waited for our food. When it arrived, he offered thanks for the meal and asked God to help me with the burdens of life. As we ate I felt as if a weight had been lifted.

His prayer for me reminded me of Peter’s works in 1 Peter 5:6-7, “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”

I never forgot that lunch and how he had reminded me to rely on God and in due time things would be okay.

After our two hour breakfast, I thanked him for buying a young man lunch a long time ago, and for reminding him that he would be okay, in due time.
